In honor of St Louis, a monument design competition in 1965 paved a way for the constructions of the St. Louis Gateway Arch, located on the banks of the Mississippi River in St. Louis, Missouri. The monument stands at 630-feet, made of stainless steel. It is a significant view rising in the city’s skyline. The arch has a stable foundation (60 ft deep) and can withstand high winds of 150 mph and can sway up to 18 inches.
